i used to get 14.5 mpg to 15 mpg city driving. but recently i noticed a drop of 2mpg (12.5 to 13). what could have caused such a drastic change? i only have 9t miles. my friend told me to change spark plug. i checked the air filter and it seemed ok.

Could be a plug, constrictive air flow, low tires, cheap gas, dirty fuel injector, any number of things. My guess would be to check these things one at a time to make sure everything is good. Try using a different gas station. Maybe a couple of bottles of STP fuel injector cleaner may help. Just a guess.

Is the performance the same? If so probably not it to be the plugs. Are you in cold weather climates and letting it warm up for long periods of time? Just a thought.

Inflation of your tires will can also cause a change. If one or two tires are low, it causes a drag on the system, making you accelerate a little harder, as well as keep the throttle a little farther down to keep going the same speed.
Also theres stuff like listed above, Air Filter, Spark Plugs, windy days, way overdue oil change. It's amazing how much oil can cause a static draw on power.

Winter gas has more ethanol in it to cut down on air pollution in the winter. All my cars drop mpg in the winter in Colorado because of it.

chkoy, you said you lived in Virgina,I live in Maryland. All the filling stations in our area get what they referto as winter gas. My fuel economy drops about amile to amile and half starting in about mid December on both of our vehicles.

try reseting your ECM, its actually a learning computer, it will adjust performance to your driving habits, so because its basically impossible to be at 100% throttle at all times, the computer will de- tune itself, its recommended that u reset the ECM about once a month, you will notice a performance change,
