Hello, I was wondering if anybody else has had a problem with the truck
dying. Mine is acting like the fuel filter is clogged or the pump is
dying. I have a 2005 4X4 with 4100 miles on it and it has never given
me any sign of this until I was on the way home from a 100 miles away
today. It acted up in stop and go traffic and then later on the freeway
going 70-80. I can hold the throttle at a steady place and the truck
bucks and surges badly! Then I can give it gas and it just makes an
intake drone and slows down and pops through the intake and eventually
dies-or almost dies. I can shut the ignition off and restart it and
sometimes that helps out-sometimes it does not. Then it will act like
nothing is wrong at all. Thanks in advance

Mine which has 40K miles has acted like that before but not at highway speeds. The only time it has happened with me is at start up. I coughs and sputters then dies. It usually starts and runs fine after 1 or 2 episodes like that. I've tried some fuel treatments and since I've put it in it hasn't died yet. (Knock on wood.) In your case with 4k miles I would take it to the dealer and have them do a diagnostics scan to see if they can figure out whats going on and try to fix the problem. Post your results if you go that route.

I concur. Let the dealer hook it up to his computer and get the problem code. It could be just about anything. I once thought I had a fuel related problem in another truck I drove because it was missing, wouldnt idle, and sounded like it was about to die....Turned out to be an arcing plug wire....keep on truckin.

get them to hook up fuel pressure gauge and drive it and they will see the fuel pressure drop down at time replacing the fuel pump will take care of the problem.

I agree with ksls94. There has been no check engine light thus no
codes. I know this about the codes as I am a mechanic and I hooked up
my OBD11 tester. I have believed that it is the fuel pump(or fuel
filter but at 4500 miles????). The fuel filter I guess is on the pump
ala dodge. I have not been underneath my truck but when I called a
local parts house-they said no replacable fuel filter like on 99% of
cars and trucks out there. I was going to replace it even with such low
milage. On to a new note it has been acting up MUCH less klately-I
guess it fixed itself(yeah right). It acts like a fuel pump or
tps(throttle pos sensor), when it starts acting up I can keep going if
I feed the gas in REAL slow and accelerate like a snail. Then it will
usually clear up after a short while-sometimes it takes stopping and
going inside somewhere to eat or something like that. I was also
wondering if it could be vapor locking-but I can't imagine the fuel
tank being heated up from the exhaust or ???
