My 2004 Titan has defective hinges. They have bent and the tail gate has been rubbing on the bed at the bottom. Evidently the tailgate is TOO HEAVY. Maybe that is why they now have damper assist on their Titan tailgate. I took it to the dealer in November 2005 and they told me (what a coincidence) they had 2 others in there right now for the same thing. No wonder why they redesigned the tailgate. They knew they had a problem and engineered a new assisted system. The question is what are they going to do about 2004 Titan Owners who have this problem (Nothing evidently IF they can get away with it in my opinion.) I have been patiently waiting on a answer from Nissan since the middle of November 2005! Its now February 06, 2006 and they are giving me, the other two Nissan owners and the dealer the run around on it! If you have a 2004 Titan check your tailgate at the bottom and see if your tailgate, too is touching, rubbing and rusting (eventually) at the bottom. I have not had anything heavy on the gate and told the dealer that here in Savannah, GA. and they said you don't have to that the weight of it coming down can wear out the hinges alone! My Truck was 10 months old and had less than 20K Miles at the time. I have also had problems with the windows not rolling up when the button(s) is/are pressed...and get this: The two front windows last week rolled down by themselves!!! with the vehicle unaddended down to the same level from the bottom (about 3"). I went out to the vehicle to retrieve some documents and I thought someone broke into it. The seatbelts are getting WAY Hard to unclasp, they are replacing it, but there seems to be a scarcity of seatbelt parts and they took 2 months to "release" it to the dealer. I am starting to think poorly of Nissan for giving me the run around/ignoring me at first by not returning my phone calls for 1800Nissan1 and not standing behind their product. You made the Truck, you should stand behind it! I expect better from you and now this problem(s) might have to be transferred from your WARRANTY Department to your LEGAL Department. This is a heads up for you other 2004 owners out there to check your tailgates (grab them and see what play you have on them, should be very little, and if its like mine, yours is rubbing too!) and see if it is touching. There are other issues, too I have with the truck...Nissan, this is your opportunity to get the problems fixed.

It is no doubt that the '04 Titan tailgate is one heavy sob. I weigh well over 200 lbs. and I have sat and stood on my open tailgate numerous times with no adverse effects. Im not sure how just the weight of the tailgate itself could bend the hinges. Maybe you got a bad set of hinges....keep on truckin.

Nope, my heart is good and my conscience is clear. I have done no such thing. As I stated in my first post the dealer here alone has 2 other vehicles with the same problem, one at 4k miles and one with similar to me (miles). ***UPDATE***Nissan has decided to fix the problem now.
