when i put my truck in 4WD and take a sharp turn, the front brake kicks in so hard that the truck stops and then is working very hard to move at all.  anyone out there have any insight on this.  i do the test on the pavement.  i believe that it has something to do with limited slip, etc.

any info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I think it is not your brake, it is your front drive binding. It will pop and complain in a tight turn on dry pavement... that is why is says specifically in the Nissan manual not to turn sharp on dry pavement...

I've noticed it as well when I have 4WD set and doing a tight turn....

it seems like the slip diff engages/disengages and I can feel the power

tranfer at the front come in and out. I take it this is normal?

I noticed while driving on some light snow/wet roads.

Do you know of any good website offerring 4WD driving tips?

thanks.

When you put it in 4 wheel drive your front differential is locked... meaning your wheels (and tires) can only turn at the same speed.  In normal 2WD mode, when you turn, one wheel spins faster than the other.  By locking them, it prevents that from happening, causing the chirp and binding you feel.

NEVER drive in 4WD on dry pavement if you plan on turning! It can do serious damage to your front drive system (axles, differential, etc) and also potentially damage your transfer case!
